SD73 has introduced a new reading motivation program for elementary school students in our district! Students at Rayleigh Elementary have been reading the nominated 8 picture books and 8 chapter books and in May 2023 will have an opportunity to vote on their favourite book from each list! Students at Rayleigh enjoyed Literacy Week/Unplug and Play events! Students had opportunities in class to participate in fun literacy activities, and also City of Kamloops Unplug and Play free events. Rayleigh students like to Drop Everything and Read! Battle of the Books is underway at Rayleigh! This is a District motivational reading program for our grades 3-6, which involves reading 12 predetermined books with select teams competing against teams from other schools for Zone and District titles! Our enthusiastic team had such a close finish coming in 3rd. We finished our theme by making some groovy Pete hats! Our Battle of the Books teams have been working very hard, some since last Summer, reading 12 pre-selected books to prepare for our upcoming Zones. We are not able to have an in-person Zone competition yet this year, but we are hopeful to meet in person for the Districts! |
